Walter Greggs Obituary

Deacon Walter Ray Greggs Jr. was born October 12,1958 in Trinity, Tx. He was the fifth of six children born to Mr. Walter Greggs Sr. and Mrs. LC Greggs. After graduating from Trinity High School in 1976 he moved to Houston, TX and later to Huntsville, TX where he resided for over 26 years. 

Walter loved sports, especially track and football. He was a faithful and loved employee with Region 6 Education Service Center for the past 20 years. His loved ones remember him always being able to put a smile on anyone’s face.

Deacon Walter had a heart for singing from childhood through adulthood. He was known to sing with local choirs and quartets until his health failed. One of the songs that he was most known for leading was “Hide Behind the Mountain [where Chilly Winds don’t blow}”. He sung it so much that he acquired the nickname “Chilly Wind”. Some of his favorite hobbies were barbecuing, singing, working in the yard and just being a handy man. Deacon Walter Greggs loved his family and his family loved him!!

Walter accepted Christ at an early age at Mary’s Chapel Baptist Church in Trinity, TX. At the time of his demise he was a member and ordained Deacon of Greater Robinson Memorial Church of God in Christ in Huntsville, TX. Deacon Walter Greggs departed this life on Sunday, March 29, 2020 due to natural causes. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Walter Greggs Sr., his mother, Mrs. LC Greggs and his sister, Elsie Greggs.  He leaves to forever cherish his memories his children: Ayanna Greggs of Houston, TX and Kenneth & KeN’ysha Johnson of Huntsville, TX; Two sisters: Clara Seton of Houston, TX andThelma Stubblefield of Trinity, TX; Two brothers: Deacon Willie L. Greggs (Carrie) of Houston, TX and Supt. Charles Greggs (Susie) of Huntsville, TX; Three grandchildren Lauryn, Eryn, and Marcus Quiller of Houston, TX; and an abundance of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
