Sonja Yvonne Thornton was born in Conroe, Texas, on April 21, 1974 to Clarence Earl and Mary Lee Thornton.
Sonja accepted Christ at the age of 10 years as her personal Lord and Savior at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Nemiah Fifer. In later years she joined Unity of Faith Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Eldridge McAdams, on February 22, 2015. At the time of her passing she was an active member at Greater Victory Baptist Church, where she continued to serve under the leadership of Rev. Eldridge McAdams. She joined Greater Victory Baptist Church December 9, 2018.
Sonja attended school, at Coldspring High School. She graduated in 1992. She continued her studies at Lamar University, in Beaumont, Texas, where she graduated on August 16, 2014 with a Registered Nurse BSNA, and also a degree in Bachelor of Applied Arts and Science in 2001.
Sonja was preceded in death by her uncles: Jerry Thornton, paternal great grandfather: and great grandmother: William B. Henry and Rosella Henry; grandfather and grandmother: C.B. Thornton and Deloris Thornton; maternal grandfather and grandmother: Allen Alexander Sr., and Emma Lee Alexander.
Sonja leaves to cherish her memories, her parents: Clarence and Mary Thornton; uncles: Eddie Meyers (Dwine), John Meyers, Standley Meyers, Edwin Meyers, Kelton Thornton, Willie Alexander (Patricia), Allen Alexander Jr. (Thelma); aunts: Barbara Lowe, Jackie Barlow, Toni White, Theresa Kemp, Sophia Solomon (Anthony); god children: Jayden Sykes, Jace Lewis, and Maliah Standley; special neighbors: Spencer and Leslie Gordon, special friends: Brandi Gunter, Kendra Barber, Noneira Creeks, Audrey Pitre Jr., Duke Byrd, Earnestine Denson, Irdene Norsworthy, Cheryal Fisher, Brenda Lee, Becky Flarity, and Nicole Thompson; god parents: Rev. Eric C. and Arletha Burch, and Arthur Lee and Linda Faye Terry; her dog: Otis and her cat: Milo III.
