Richard Lewis, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, at the age of 64.
Richard was born on November 27, 1961, in San Jacinto County, Texas, to J.C. Lewis and Mollie Wyatt. He lived a life defined by kindness, hard work, humor, and devotion to those he loved. He was known for his generous spirit, wise advice, and ability to make everyone around him laugh and feel welcome.
Richard attended schools in Coldspring and Corrigan, Texas. Throughout his life, he held many jobs, but his favorite was working for Walker Byrd Lumber Mill, where he earned the respect and admiration of coworkers and friends.
Outside of work, Richard enjoyed music, sports, and spending treasured timewith his family.
He is survived by his daughters, Kandace Lewis and Joreana Lewis of Houston, Texas; his son, Richard Lewis, Jr. of Houston, Texas; his brothers, Robert Blanks (Linda) of Oakhurst, Texas, Jackie Lewis (Shanell) of Huntsville, Texas, T.C. Lewis of Oakhurst, Texas, and Joe Lewis of Phelps, Texas; his sisters, Edna Gordon (Barry) of Huntsville, Texas, and Rita Polk of Spring, Texas; and his aunt, Barbara White of Oakhurst, Texas.
Richard also leaves to cherish his memory his grandchildren: D'rondrick Oliphant, Aniyah Lewis, Princeton Owes, Kayla Upshaw, and Aaliyah Griffith, all of Houston, Texas, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Asheley Merchant; his father, J.C. Lewis; his mother, Mollie Wyatt Lewis; his sister, Anita Lewis; and his brother, James Lewis.
