Bertha Lee Rolling was born in Huntsville, Texas, to Willie Holmes, Sr. and Mary Julieann Holmes on March 16, 1940.
Bertha was the Pastor, CEO, Founder and Visionary for St. Galilee Missionary Baptist Church Outreach Center. She was known to many as Pastor Rolling. She was no stranger to those who came in contact with her and she gave herself to those in need.
Pastor Rolling was a servant for the Lord. She had a thirst for knowledge as well. That thirst took her to Conroe Industrial College, where she obtained her Dr. of Divinity of Christian Education. She also attended school there for 16 years. Tirelessly traveling back and forth from Huntsville, Texas to Conroe, Texas. During that time she enjoyed the teachings from her professors that included, Dr. Martin (Instructor), Dr. Pulsee (Bible Teacher) and Dr. Bradley (Psychology Teacher).
Pastor Rolling had a great love for God, people and history. She was ordained as a Pastor by the late Bishop Spencer, at St. Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. Among her many Christian duties, she spent 21 years doing the Prison Ministry, 5 years with Radio Ministry KMVL 1220 AM, in Madisonville, Texas, and surrounding areas, 18 years: President of the Countywide Mission, where she traveled to the nursing homes, ministering, singing and praying for the elderly. She also held tent revivals by the Zipps Convenience Store, in Huntsville, Texas.
Pastor Rolling will be remembered for the help she gave to the community and her continuous effort to spread the good news about the Lord.
Pastor Rolling was preceded in death by her son: M.J. Powell, Jr.; her parents; her husband; sisters: Willie Mae Johnson and Essie Pearl Brown; brothers: Willie Holmes, Jr., Frank Phifer, Sr., James Holmes and Robert Holmes, Sr.
Pastor Rolling leaves precious memories with her son: Frank Larry Powell; brother: Jerry Holmes, Sr., a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, additional relatives and friends.
