Mary Hall Obituary

Missionary Mary Geneva Winfrey-Hall; of Huntsville, Texas went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 8, 2021, at the age of 86. She was born on April 19, 1934 to the late Herbert Sr. and Irene Haynes-Winfrey.

Missionary Hall received her early education at Hopewell School. She later graduated from Sam Houston High School with the class of 1962. In later years she received her bachelor’s degree in English, with a minor in Spanish from Sam Houston State University. Following receiving her degree, Missionary Hall taught English/Language Arts from 1990 until she retired  in 2012 from the Huntsville Independent School District.

Missionary Hall accepted Christ at an early age, her love for God and his people first led her to Hills Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and later Galilee Church of God in Christ. She served as a faithful child of God under the leadership of the late Elder I.C. Cooper and Superintendent Noble Cooper, Sr. after their passing she served under the leadership of Superintendent Terry Cooper until her passing. Missionary Hall was the mother of the church, she served on various boards and was part of various committees that included the Mission Board, Superintendent of Sunday School, Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Board, Purity Class President, Church Secretary, the Finance Committee, she served on the Black History Program Committee, President of church scholarships, Pastor and Wife Anniversary Committee, Sunshine Band, President of the Senior Choir, President over the Young Women’s Christian Council (YWCC) and Young People Willing Workers (YPWW), President over the Sewing Circle, Bible Band Teacher, Historian of the church and a midwife in the Galilee area. Along with her many accolades, she possessed the talent as a well known seamstress in the community.

In addition to her parents Missionary Hall was preceded in death by her husband Curmie Hall, whom she married in 1953, in Huntsville, Texas; daughter-in-law: Eddie Mae Hall; siblings: Ruby Niblett, Ola Mae Crooks, Pearlie Mae Issac, Herbert Winfrey Jr., Lou Ella Willis, Dorothy Crooks and Fredrick Winfrey. 

Missionary Mary Hall leaves to cherish  “her babies”; Kenneth “Squirrel” Hall and Ronald  “Jack” Hall (Juanita “Rene”); grandchildren: Ronald “Bernie” Robinson-Hall, Natasha Hall-Franklin (Joseph Sr.), Shamora “Pooh” Hall, Dr. Temisha Hall, LaTanya Hall-Love (Kelly), Kenneth “ Jr” Hall and Jerel Hall (LaMondrea “Queen”); 16 great-grandchildren: Christina Robinson, Ronald “Lil Ron” Robinson, A’arion Ja’Mael “AJ” Cunningham, Keyontae Robinson, Caleb Franklin, James “JJ” Williams, Kenneth “KJ” Hall III, Joseph Franklin Jr. “JoJo”, Kelly Love “K3”, Joire Williams, Kennedy Love, Gracelynn Hall, Christian Hall, Jess Williams, Gisselle Hall, Karter Love; one great-great grand; siblings: Charles Winfrey Sr.; of Houston, TX, Gladys Oliphant; of Huntsville, TX. sister-in-laws: Freddie Lee Agee of Houston, TX, Vata Crawford of Tennessee, and Alice Hall of Detroit, Michigan. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the Galilee COGIC church family.
