Leroy was born on August 31, 1955, in Beaumont, Texas, the third oldest of eleven children. He married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart Irma Williams in 1975 with whom he shares three children. After graduating from French High school, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1972 and honorably served as a tactical wire operations specialist on tours in Germany and South Korea. He took great pride in his time served in the military where he realized a love of travel and a fascination in learning about cultures. The army helped reinforce values of discipline, teamwork and devotion to family and community. It also contributed to his success in leadership and growth of his established truck driving career following the relocation of his family to Houston, TX.
He was a God-fearing man of strong faith. He was a skilled cook and music enthusiast who dearly loved to entertain and would open his home to family, loved ones and friends often and unreservedly offering fellowship. He was a jokester that never met a stranger, frequently providing conversation to all and he was always willing to disseminate guidance and wisdom to youth wherever he encountered them.
