Eugene Johnson was born on November 15, 1945, in Huntsville, Texas, to Eli and Esther Mae Johnson. He departed this life on January 24, 2024, at Huntsville Memorial Hospital, in Walker County, at the age of 78.
Eugene resided in Huntsville, Texas all of his life. He attended public schools in the area. He worked as a general laborer, skilled in painting and some carpentry work.
Eugene was fondly known to most by his nickname, “Chicken Fox”, and he often referred to himself as such. He wasn’t a stranger to anyone in his neighborhood and enjoyed spending his latter years sitting on the front porch or hanging out in the yard with family and friends.
Eugene met Nancy Sims and they united in marriage in 1967. To this union no children were born, but he was blessed with step-daughters: Sheri Sims and Michelle Sims-Riles.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents: Eli and Esther Johnson; brothers: Jack Johnson and Archie Johnson; sisters: Reba Johnson, Lenora Isaac and Barbara Tubbs.
Loved ones left to cherish his memory: Nancy Sims; brother: Cal Johnson; step-daughters: Sheri Sims and Michelle Sims-Riles (Marvin); sister-in-law: Von Thomas-Johnson; step-grandchildren: Latasha Sims, Lanesha Sims, Dwaylon Sims, Robert Kelly Jr., A’Shunte Riles; step-great grandchildren: Derik Hood II, Aaliyah Sims, Robert Kelley III, Braylen Baker Sims, Ayden Baker, Zachary Sims; special family relatives: John McQuirter and Cynthia Fowler, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
