Betty Washington Obituary

Sister Bettie Washington-Spiller was born October 21, 1941 to her loving mother: Ruby Hemphill in Huntsville, Texas. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age with St. James United Methodist Church.

Being a devout believer of her God and all his goodness, Sister Bettie attended church regularly. Her advice to family and friends confronted with adversity and challenges was “Just Pray.” Until her passing, she continued to serve faithfully at Hills Chapel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Jimmy Lawrence.

Betty was formally educated through the Huntsville Independent School District and graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1961.

Betty married Eddie Washington Sr. in 1971 and they became the proud parents of a son, Eddie Jr. in 1985. Eddie Sr. moved on to be with Lord in 2007 and she was blessed to meet Ester Spiller Jr. Following several years of companionship, they became man and wife. Ester left for his heavenly home in 2013.

Betty’s employment history included work as a nurse’s aide, child care worker, shipping and receiving clerk at Maryland Club Coffee, as well as an apartment manager. After Several years of employment with Wal-Mart, she retired in 2017.

Betty was preceded in passing by her dear mother: Ruby, sisters: Mary Hightower and Lillie Mae Johnson, as well as her brother: Connie Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memories her son: Eddie, Jr; brother: James Johnson (JoAnn); sister: Lynda Hisey (Fred); nieces, Deborah Jenkins (Lepher), Phyills Hightower, and Daliza  Wiley (Manuel); nephew: Quincy Johnson; great nieces: Catina, Tinita, and A’neica Hightower; great nephews: Robert Jenkins and Cha’Ron Hightower and a host of other relatives co-workers, and friends.
