Bennie Evelyn Garrett, a sweet loving mother who cared for everyone who came her way. She was known across her hometown by countless friends and family, and will be missed by her children, grandchildren and many others.
Bennie became a bundle of joy to her parents Ben and Mary Garrett in Huntsville, Texas on December 18, 1943.
Bennie grew up in Walker County and received her education there as well. She was an educated member of Sam Houston High School and graduated with the class of 1961. Bennie then pursued the Health Care career and cared for many sick throughout the community.
Bennie, also known to many as “Aunt Shang” had a special love for her church family at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Wesley Spencer. It was there where she was a devoted choir director, church secretary, Sunday school teacher and kitchen coordinator.
Bennie was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Mary Garrett; brother: Edward (Kit) Kittrell. Her sisters: Flodia (Flo) Irving, Audrey Jean McGowan; nephews: Benjamin (Ben Ben) Bridges and Don Harrison.
Those that are left to cherish memories include her children: Genefier Gill (Sean), Sandra Garrett, Brian Garrett (Delona), Lyndsey Garrett, Talliesha Garrett, Ciaria Garrett, Henry Garrett and Tina Carter (Charlie); grandchildren: Monique White (Maurice), Robert Grigsby, Jr. (Bridney), Greg Anderson, Brandon Ennis (Nita), Chelsea Gamble, Danny Grigsby, Tre Grigsby, Keoshia Grigsby, Danyel Grigsby, Ta’kayla Garrett; great-grandchildren: Jayvieuna Tyson, Jordan Ennis, KJ White, Khalil Grigsby, Oceane Anderson, Robert and Ryann Brisco; devoted great-grandchildren: Markel and Peyton Smith, Preston Carter and DJ Houston; sister: Adrain (Sweetie) Grant (Jimmy); brother: Benny Holmes; sister-in-law: Mary Kittrell; dedicated and devoted family members: Stephanie Gambrell, Beverly Cole, Rokko Chavez, and Ms. Norma Dale, and a host of nieces, nephews, additional relatives and friends.
