Audrey Watkins Allen was born on February 24, 1936, to the late Rev. Joseph Watkins, Sr. and Blanche Boyd Watkins. She accepted the Lord at an early age and was the pianist for the Church of God in Plaquemine, Louisiana. After graduating from Iberville High School, she attended Xavier University in pursuit of a nursing degree. Audrey remained in New Orleans as a LVN nurse until 1968 when she wanted a life change, and moved to Houston, Texas. She met Napoleon B. Allen, a 6’4 tall Texan and married him in 1970. Audrey earned her registered nursing license and was the director of nursing when she retired. Her entire nursing career spanned 60 years. Her passion was geriatrics and her specialty was assisting nursing homes because, “State was in the building.”
Audrey is preceded in death by her husband, Napoleon; her parents; brothers: Ralph Jenkins and Louis Watkins Sr.; sister: Martha Watkins Thomas.
On January 7, 2023, Audrey’s journey was complete. Audrey leaves behind two daughters: Andrea Deonne Wynne (Elem), Natasha Allen Davis (James-deceased); seven grandchildren: Jamaica Harrison, Alex Harrison, Alexis Harrison, Taylor Davis, Kennedy Davis, Elem Wynne III, and Ashley Wynne; eight great-grandchildren: Allahna, Aubrey, Jayden, Karson, Junis Jr., Titiana, JaQuez, and Adrianna; sister, Melene Poplion (Julius Sr- deceased); brothers, Joseph (Georgia) Watkins Jr., Carl (Clyde) Watkins Sr., Phillip (Neisha) Watkins Sr., Sterlin (Joyce) Watkins Sr., and number of wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends ….all that loved her very much.
