Alice Howard 98 was the quiet strength of our family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and friend. She was born February 7, 1923 in Huntsville, TX to Henry Wiley and Clarisse Spivey, she was the youngest of two children. Her parents and brother, Jessie Wiley preceded her in death. Alice devoted her life to Christ at a young age and was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church. In 1947, she met and married a young schoolteacher and veteran from Palestine TX., Percy Howard Jr. They were married for 66 years, and together they raised 5 children. Percy preceded her in death in 2012. Alice was a committed church member serving on several committees, including the Church's food ministry. After 25 years of service in the Huntsville School District helping hundreds of students develop a love for reading, she retired and dedicated her time to her church, her family, fishing, and her garden.
Percy and Alice were committed to improving the Huntsville community, including supporting the Boys and Girls Club of Huntsville, and for several years sponsoring the Howard Educational Scholarship Fund for exceptional high school seniors.
Alice is survived by a host of family and friends who share stories, recipes, and her life wisdom including her children: Malcolm Howard (Cheryl), Rosalyn Kelly, DeAndra Mullins, Percy Howard III (Cindy), and Michelle Diggs (Anthony).
