A.C. Merchant blessed his parents with his birth on March 22, 1940 in Huntsville, Texas. He was the seventh child out of ten.
A.C. attended McAdams rural area school.
A.C. Joined Paul Chapel Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of Rev. Lonzo Davenport. At the time of his passing he remained a member under the leadership of Rev. Wesley Spencer.
A.C. was a strong man. He was a person that didn’t have a lot to say, but if you talked to him he would talk to you. He was a true and real cowboy who loved horses and cows. He was a roper that had names as pistol, cowboy, C-boy and lately were called Trouble. He loved to barbecue. He would look forward for our family reunions every year.
A.C. was preceded in death by his parents; great-grandson: Markice Griffith Jr.; sisters: Zelma Johnson and Mease Ashley and brother: J.C. Merchant.
A.C. is survived by his children: Diane Mack; of Huntsville, Texas, Sharon Burnett; of Austin, Texas, Paula Merchant; of Huntsville, Texas and Laquita Thomas; of Huntsville, Texas; grandchildren: Dwelvin Mack, Sade Mack, Ebony Moss, Briteria Mack, Tyra Williams, Asheley Merchant, Richard Lewis, Jr., Kandance Lewis, Jordana Lewis, Traneisha, Kendra, Kendall; and a host of great-grandchildren: Da’Nivya, C’Mya, Allahna, Damonee’, Kayla, D’rondrick and Princeton; sisters: Mattie Smith (Oran), Ocie Johnson, Dorthy Hall (Osby), Esther Davison and Lovie Williams; brother: R.L. Merchant (Emma) and a host of nieces, nephews, additional relatives and friends.
