Obituary

Troy Vivion Goffney was born August 20, 1939 to the late Booker Sr.& Sadie Goffney in New Waverly, Texas.


Troy accepted Jesus Christ at any early age and was baptized and became a member of Jasper Missionary Baptist Church for many years.


In 2000,Troy was united with Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Michael C. Davis. While worshipping here, he was a member of the Trustee Board and a former member of the Male chorus.


After finishing school in the Huntsville School District, Troy enlisted in the United States Army. He served in Germany during the Korean War.Following serving his country and returning home, Troy became a  semi-truck driver and retired from Louisiana Pacific after 27 years of service. He was affectionately known by the handle "Teddy Bear".


Troy loved fishing and said "crappie was the best tasting fish in the world". He was also an avid sports fan. He watched them ALL.


Troy particularly enjoyed going to the basketball games and tournaments of his favorite coach, with whom he had a special relationship; his nephew Billy Kent.


Troy leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife of 25 years: Shirley DeLois Goffney, 7 children: Darryl (Peggy), Debra, Jerry( Michele), Felicha, Xavier, Ray (Karen), Rochelle Renee (Danny), 2 brothers: Leo (Sharie) and Booker Jr.(Cornelia), 21 Grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a host of numerous relatives and friends.
