Joyce Elaine Roundtree passed away in Huntsville, Texas, on August 12, 2026, at the age of 79. She was born September 3rd, 1946, to James “Bo” Roundtree, Sr. and Eliza (Smither) Roundtree in Huntsville, Texas. She was the youngest of six children (James Jr., JC, Willie, Fayetta, Bessie). Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and common-law spouse Thomas Bowden Sr. “Tomcat”.

Joyce was a 1965 graduate of Sam Houston High School. After graduating, she worked in custodial services for Huntsville ISD for over 20 years. Joyce also did domestic work cleaning private homes for over 50 years.

Above all, Joyce was a devoted mother and grandmother, aunt, daughter, sister, and friend whose world revolved around her family. Throughout her life, she was a source of love, strength, and support to her family and to those fortunate enough to know her. (After Big Momma), she was the true matriarch of our family, guiding us with love, grace, wisdom, and a selfless heart. Holidays were the best time when she was the cook — best food ever, and best cornbread dressing ever. She gave us her heart and soul, and we love her for that. She was the biggest fan of her children and grandchildren - supporting them all through college educations and other family milestones. When she learned how to text, she never missed a birthday, anniversary, or any significant family event. She will be remembered for her kindness, strength, generosity, faith, and strong work ethic. She especially enjoyed word search puzzles as well as watching sports (basketball/football) and game shows (Family Feud). More than anything, the legacy she leaves behind can be found in the lives of the people she loved. She was our mother, grandmother - our HERO. There are no words to describe how much she will be missed.

She is survived by her family: children, daughters; Veronda Kendall (Scott) and Vanessa Carr (Chris), son, Kirby Roundtree (Aimee); Grandchildren: Justin Ennis, Ashley Kendall, Bria Kendall, Jordyn Carr, Zachary Roundtree; Great-grandson: Kai Nasir Ennis, Family: Jim Willis, David and Carsha Richardson, along with a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
