Hattie Mae Leveston Johnson Massey was born on May 19, 1951, in Dodge, Texas, to the late Clara Leveston and Harry Joseph. From the very beginning, Hattie's life was marked by quiet strength, grace, and a deep love for family and community.

Hattie attended Sam Houston High School, where she graduated and proudly served as a member of the Pep Squad. She later continued her education at Sam Houston State University before transferring to Texas Woman's University in Denton to pursue her calling in nursing, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Before beginning her long and meaningful career at Huntsville Memorial Hospital, Hattie worked briefly at Sonic Drive-In. Over her 40-year career at Huntsville Memorial Hospital, from May 24, 1976, to July 10, 2016, she served as a Licensed Vocational Nurse, Registered Nurse, and eventually Charge Nurse on the Surgical Floor. She was admired and respected by many in the community for her skill, dedication, and the compassionate care she gave so freely to others. Outside of her profession, Hattie found joy in gardening and cooking. She especially loved sharing with others, and family and friends were often blessed by her freshly baked goods and special dishes during the Christmas season—gifts of love they eagerly anticipated each year.

Hattie was baptized and joined the church at an early age, beginning a lifelong walk of faith. As an adult, she united with Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Michael C. Davis. She remained a devoted member and continued to worship under the current leadership of Pastor Demarcus Howard until her health no longer allowed her to attend as she once had.

Hattie met and married Oma (Ox) Johnson Jr. on July 10, 1981. They remained married until his passing, September 28, 2012. She remarried in 2014 to Oscar Massey.

Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Ethel Massey and Joyce Martin, along with brother-in-law, Grover Goodwell, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her son, Oma Johnson III (Kristi); her daughter, Stephanie Jenkins (Chris); her beloved grandchildren, Jalacia Jenkins, Kiara Johnson, Jadyn Jenkins, Chris Jenkins, Jr., Oma Johnson IV, and Tyler Johnson; her great-grandchildren, Na'im Hancock and Nai'la Jenkins; and her siblings, Carl Houston (Sandra) and Judy Goodwell; She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends who will forever hold her love and memory close in their hearts.
