Obituary

On the 19th day of November, in 1944, a baby boy was born to Sidney Frank Reece and Rosie Lee Harrison Reece.  He was named Grover Cleveland Reece.

Grover accepted Christ as his Savior early in life and was baptized by Rev. Lem Phifer, pastor of New Light Baptist Church.  As an adult, he was a member of Community Baptist Church in San Francisco, California.  Upon returning home to New Waverly, he united with Concord Baptist Church.

Grover attended elementary school at G.W. Carver Elementary in New Waverly.  He attended junior high and most of high school in Abilene, Texas.  He graduated in 1964 from G.W. Carver High School in New Waverly.  Grover loved the game of football and excelled at it.

A few months after graduation, Grover moved to San Francisco, California.  In 1966, during the height of the Viet Nam War, Grover was drafted into the United States Army.  His service to his country required that he fight in Viet Nam.  God returned him safely home!  After completing his two years of military service, he returned to his beloved San Francisco.  There he spent most of his years working as a carpenter.

When his health significantly declined, he returned to New Waverly to be under the watchful care of his beloved siblings.  The times spent together will be forever cherished.

Grover was taken home to our Heavenly Father on April 3, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Rosie Reece, a brother Powell Reece, and a step daughter, Sharon Slocum.

Grover is survived by his wife, Sandra Reece, two sons, Grover ll, and Sidney Curtis Reece,  One grand daughter: Zaliyah Reece. Three step daughters, Vaneeta Lewis, Lana Slocum and Viola Slocum.  Five sisters:  Essie Frazier, Bernice (Raymond) Tucker, Robbie Williams, Cornelia (Booker, his lifelong friend and classmate) Goffney, and Onati (Tobe) Oliphant.  Three brothers: Donald (Barbara) Reece, Thomas Reece and Cade Reece.
